The London Youth Games 2009 Floor and Vault rules have been changed. The revised rules allow lower level artistic gymnasts to compete with and against those from General Gymnastics.
What you as a coach need to know:
- Moves are now tariffed. This means when a gymnast performs eight moves or more, each can be worth 0.1 or 0.3. Therefore, whereas in the Bronze/Silver/Gold all moves are worth the same, in the LYG, harder moves are worth more.
- There are "Composition Requirements" (CR's). These are links, moves, and series which the routine moves when put together will fulfill. (i.e. a round off flic will fulfill the acro series). However, be aware that a move cannot be performed twice to achieve this. (round off flic = ok ; round off straddle jump = not ok for mixed).
- Be careful you do not forget a full spin in the girls F&V. This is a deduction of 0.1 if not there. The bonus is this is worth 0.3.
- Do not sacrifice performance for tariff. A 0.3 move performed badly would certainly outweigh a good 0.1 move.
- Make sure your gymnast knows their vault height. There are two heights over a choice of a table or a cross vault. Also ensure they know their board distance from the vault, and even their run up start point.
- When constructing your gymnasts routines and vault, the new rules allow Boys who have achieved Men's Artistic Level 4, and also girls who have competed up to and including NDP Grades 9 - 14, to compete in the Floor and Vault. You will therefore need to keep your gymnast's routines neat, stretched, tight and simple. If they can do 6, 7 or even 8 of the 0.3 moves with all these qualities - great.
- Finally -READ THE RULES!
